For a guy who hasn't spent much time in one place lately, it's pretty impressive that he's started 31 of 44 games. And guess what? Miami has promised him a chance to compete for the starting job. A close associate of Josh McCown said the Dolphins assured McCown there will be an open competition at quarterback ... and didn't tell him whether they planned to draft Boston College's Matt Ryan, whom the team continues to inquire about. Offensive coordinator Dan Henning and quarterbacks coach David Lee told McCown they already have ideas to make him better. I'd love to hear what Henning and Lee have planned. It's not that I don't think McCown can be a competent NFL quarterback, it's just that he's not a guy you build a team around; he's a player you can have confidence in bringing off the bench if the starter goes down.
