Mayo, the hottest recruit in the country, will either be the salvation of the USC basketball program or the downfall of the USC basketball program. Those who believe the latter got some supporting evidence this week when reports surfaced that Mayo broke the jaw of teammate Daniel Hackett. But Scott Wolf of the Los Angeles Daily News reports that at least one player claims the broken jaw came when Mayo punched Hackett, while publicly Mayo, Hackett and coach Tim Floyd are all saying it was an accidental elbow. "Yeah, he punched him," a player said. "They changed the story for the media." Hackett and Mayo denied any punches were thrown. "No, I didn't punch him," Mayo said. Said Hackett: "It was a hard elbow." Hackett's injury was suffered during a pickup game last month at which coaches were not present, and there's a pretty good chance that we'll never know the truth.Hat tip: Sports by [ Full article ] |
