IT’S JUST THE INTERNET! If you’re a blogger, a member of an internet group, chatter, or participant in any of the countless ways that people communicate online, chances are you’ve seen this phrase in action (sometimes exhaustively). Where exactly did it come from anyway? What I do know is when I tend to see it pop up most often. Much like its cousin “IT’S JUST AN OPINION“, it usually pops up when somebody’s waded too deep out into the sh*t they’ve been talking and realized they haven’t got a raft to make their way back in. Or, to put it more succinctly, either by people on the receiving end of a verbal asskicking or those trying to throw them a rope at the asskicker’s expense. So “it’s just the internet”, I guess, is supposed to make the case that whoever is administering the asskicking is way too invested in the discussion.
